About the campaign

For almost three decades, Earth User’s Guide to Permaculture has been one the foremost introductory permaculture books, inspiring budding permaculturists from all over the world.

Melliodora Publishing has encouraged and supported Rosemary (Rowe) Morrow to create an updated edition of the book.

Rowe’s passion was for much more than just an update.

Earth Restorer’s Guide to Permaculture is all that Earth User’s Guide was, and so much more. With a complete revision of her original work, and extra chapters added to broaden the scope, the book helps address the bigger picture of how we can restore the Earth in and beyond our own backyards.

This expanded book has more than doubled the project cost.

As always, Melliodora Publishing is committed to printing in Australia, adding significantly to the cost. We are looking for help from the permaculture community to get this valuable text out there.

Can you help us?

To cover some of our printing and production costs, we are hoping to raise AUD$30,000.

Earth Restorer’s Guide to Permaculture

Author Rosemary Morrow
Illustrated by Rob Allsop
Foreword by Dr Vandana Shiva

A lifetime of global knowledge

With decades of hands-on teaching experience in a wide range of settings and circumstances, Rosemary Morrow brings a lifetime of global knowledge to this completely revised and updated edition of her classic Earth User’s Guide to Permaculture text.

The newly-titled Earth Restorer’s Guide to Permaculture covers essentials such as: soil, water, microclimates, trees, seeds, design, pattern literacy, pests and weeds.

Growing global challenges

It also turns our minds to the growing global challenges to Earth’s air, soil and water, and shows us that by working in our local patch we can help restore our global ecosystems.

New in this edition are discussions on air quality, and chapters on marine permaculture, ‘crowded margins’ (including refugee camps), emerging economic models, livelihoods, and patterns in nature and their design applications.

As always, Rob Allsop’s warm and accessible illustrations complement and illuminate Rosemary Morrow’s practical approach.

Earth Restorer’s Guide to Permaculture is a call to action.

It entreats and empowers us to launch a new restorative relationship with all life.

Born in Perth, Rosemary (Rowe) Morrow formed a strong connection to the Earth. Later she trained in agricultural science, but was left disappointed. A move to France took her to the L’Arche community, and later at Jordan’s Village in England she became a Quaker.

Back in Australia in the 1980s Rowe undertook a Permaculture Design Course (PDC), which initiated her journey with Earth restoration. She considers permaculture to be ‘sacred knowledge’ to be carried and shared with others. Since then, when asked, she has travelled to teach the PDC to others who, due to circumstances, can not access it any other way. Rowe has taught permaculture in immediate post-war Vietnam as well as Cambodia, Uganda, Ethiopia and many other countries.

The first edition of Earth User's Guide to Permaculture was released in 1993, with an expanded and updated edition in 2006. It has been lauded within the permaculture community as an accessible and informative introduction to permaculture.

We are very excited to be welcoming her revised and updated third edition, Earth Restorer’s Guide to Permaculture.

Rowe's list

Pay it forward

At Rowe’s suggestion, we are incorporating a ‘pay it forward’ option into this campaign.

As well as raising some money towards our production costs, we will be giving books to those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access them.

From her extensive work around the world, Rowe has a long list of individuals, groups and communities who will benefit from receiving complimentary copies of the book.

The best gift to our world is a planet restored.
